About the job
Our paraprofessionals work beside teachers and the special education team so every student gets the help they need to learn. You work with students one-on-one and in small groups, help keep classrooms focused, and keep teachers and families up to date on how students are doing.
What you'll do
- Support students one-on-one or in small groups: reinforce lessons and help them work through course material.
- Help teachers run class activities, guide student behavior, and keep the room positive and focused.
- Work with special education teachers to carry out the accommodations and modifications in students' IEPs.
- Track students' academic progress, attendance, and behavior, and give teachers and administrators regular updates.
- Give students emotional support when they need it, and use positive behavior strategies.
- Prepare materials, organize classroom resources, and manage equipment and supplies.
- Join school-wide activities, clubs, and events.
- Talk with parents and guardians and help them stay involved in their student's learning.
What you need
- A high school diploma or equivalent. We prefer an associate's degree or higher.
- A real interest in education and in helping students grow.
- Strong communication and people skills with students, teachers, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to different learning needs.
- Strong organization and the ability to handle several tasks at once.
- A commitment to the Roots mission, our values, and inclusive teaching.
